Well, hello everyone and welcome to the Team Paraguay blog! Our team of six is ready to fly out from all our hometowns to serve a rural community in Paraguay. My team will be going to help Dr. Jeff McKissick and his family in their ministry of providing medical care and sharing the Gospel in their community. Dr. Jeff and his wife are giving us the opportunity to share the gospel and work with patients through their Training in Medical Evangelism (TIME) program. Throughout this trip we will be staying with Paraguayan host families and learning their language to better communicate the Gospel with them and others in the community. Also, we will be learning about cross-cultural evangelism to be effective in medical missions. Lastly, we will be helping Dr. Jeff at his clinic by taking vitals and patient histories, running lab tests, and doing whatever we can to best serve the McKissick family and their community.

Speaking for myself and my team, we are all so excited for what God has planned for us during these next six weeks. We also want to thank everyone who has supported and prayed for us as we have prepared for our missions trip! Please continue to pray for God to use us in this community and everyone we come in contact with :)

I know, I know. the title looks like a fist full of letters randomly drawn for a new game of Scrabble. Here in Paraguay, it's a formal greeting, a way of saying "hello, how is life?" I'll go ahead and answer by saying the T.I.M.E. team is doing great! By this point, many of us have passed the overwhelming bits of culture shock and we're constantly absorbing more of the routines, rituals, and habits of Paraguay as we go. Our bodies and minds are slowly settling into the the Paraguayan culture that we dove headfirst into a little under two weeks ago (but not without some hilarious hiccups along the way)! The language barrier is in full swing, and so communication with the locals and our host families consists of formal greetings, rudimentary sentences of Guarani and Spanish pieced together, and the universally understood language of hand gesture and miming. The part-time miming gig often gets us more laughs than our attempts at speaking Guarani, and Google Translate

It's 5am here in Paraguay and we are just about ready to take off from the airport in Asuncion. The past few days have been filled with goodbyes to our host families, other SIM missionaries, and, of course, the McKissick family. It was very difficult to say goodbye to so many people that we have come to know and love over the past 6 weeks!  I know for me, and probably the whole group, it seems as if we just got here! There are lots of emotions, excited to see our families in the states, but also wishing we could stay with the McKissick's and our host families, to do more in Jataity! Our time in clinical and visiting wrapped up on Friday! One of the days in clinical last week Grace, Ryan, and I had one patient that came in claiming she had taken a pregnancy test and it was positive however she had been bleeding a lot. The Ruins and More

   The morning we left the States I remember having the thought, "goodbye comfort zone."      When we arrived in Asuncion, after stumbling through purchasing a multi-entry visa and customs in Spanish, a few of us learned our luggage was not going to arrive until the next day. The man who was attempting to help us get our luggage soon realized the ignorance of our plans for the next six weeks. "Do you know how long you will be in Asuncion?"  "No, not a clue." "Do you know where you are staying tonight?" "Uh..no" "What about your final destination?" "Hmm, wherever the McKissicks live...so not really."    Thankfully one of us had Dr. Jeff's number to give him and we were able to laugh about us being in a foreign country and being pretty much oblivious to what we were going to do for the next six weeks.    Since then we have been here in Paraguay a little over a month.
